Emperor Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious, is a central antagonist in the Star Wars saga. He is a powerful Sith Lord and master manipulator who orchestrates the downfall of the Galactic Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire.
His first appearance in the Star Wars movie franchise was in the second installment, "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" where he is a cloaked image talking to Darth Vader. He later appears in a larger role in "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi".
Palpatine secretly controlled the Separatist movement during the Clone Wars, positioning himself to seize power and transform the Republic into an autocratic Empire. As Emperor, he ruled with an iron fist, crushing dissent and enforcing his will through fear and military might. He serves as the ultimate evil the heroes must overcome.
